Should I worry about plastic in the packaging touching the oil?
Not at all. Independent research (Loudon et al., 2024) found that at normal storage temperatures, migration from food-safe plastics into olive oil is negligible — often below detection limits. I’m really disappointed that you moved away from the aluminum tin and to a Plastic bag container. Microplastics is a major problem and now they will be in the best olive oil on the market. Please reconsider.

First, thank you for your loyalty and for taking the time to share you concerns on the new packaging. I truly value your loyalty and the trust you’ve placed in us over the years. I hear you, and I want to explain while we made the change, which is actually an upgrade.
The honest truth is, I went into this change with the same reservations you have. I researched it pretty extensively before making the switch, and what I found surprised me.
Most high-end producers are moving to this packaging as it preserves the oil better than a tin does. Once you crack open a tin, a little air gets in every time you pour. Over weeks of use, that oxygen quietly degrades the very antioxidants you're paying for. The bag is different. It collapses as you pour, so from your first use to your last drop, the oil never contacts air at all. For a high-polyphenol Coratina oil, that's not a small thing. So the oil stays fresher, longer, and fresher oil means more antioxidants and more health benefits for you.
The easy-to-use spout also helps with accidental spills, saving even more oil and making it easier to use.
On the plastic itself, I wasn't willing to compromise the oil's purity, so I looked into this carefully. A recent study (Loudon et al., 2024) measured how much might migrate from common food-grade plastics into olive oil. At room temperature—where we recommend storing your oil—migration was negligible, meaning it was below or near detection limits.
The researchers even calculated the health impact if someone consumed oil stored this way for a lifetime. The added cancer risk was less than one case per million people — about as low a risk as it gets.
That said, I completely respect your preference, and we still offer the organic oil and 750ml in tins.
At the end of the day, my goal is the same as yours. To keep this oil as pure, healthy, and delicious as it's always been. I believe this change actually helps with that. But I don't take your loyalty for granted, and your feedback matters. So thank you for letting me know.

My husband and I are impressed with the new boxed olive oil packaging. It’s easy to use and is less messy than the metal container. We know the flavor and longevity will not be compromised.
From the picture, I thought this would be a metal tin, but it's actually a cleverly designed combo of durable cardboard and thick plastic bag with a convenient dispenser on the side. It makes it very easy to dispense into the VC olive oil pourer (if you haven't bought one, it's definitely worth considering).
The shipping company damaged my original order and a simple e-mail was able to have the order replaced. Great service is hard to find, Villa Cappelli has it.
